Leland Vaughan
I came into this residency hoping to unplug from the arts business/community print studio I run and explore making for its own sake. I brought several crates full of supplies to draw, make cyanotypes, carve linocuts and woodblocks, and just play. I brought an empty sketchbook. I decided to come prepared but just let things call to me. My main print medium (risography) doesn't travel well, but my goal with this residency is to explore more mutable and portable print mediums. As an arts business owner I seldom get to create work for myself and the intention of this residency would be to focus on two printmaking methods - linocut and cyanotype - as a way to explore my own creative potential outside of the restrictions and expectations of business and capitalism. Following the residency I would compile the prints made into a zine (that would then be risograph printed).
