Goat and Re-goat is the working title of a book that crosses genres of creative non fiction, poetry and speculative fictional elements - and graphic elements, too. I made excellent progress on a chapter about mountain goats. Specifically writing about a mother on Mount St. Helens, counting rare southernmost N. American mountain goats, and trying to understand how knowledge survives extinction—of species, culture, and children—and whether embodied memory is enough to save what the mind cannot. It seeks to answer the questions what survives when transmission fails—and can the body remember what history (mythology, continuity of practice?) cannot? It is a book about embodied knowledge—and this essay is also of the same weave: how survival, culture, motherhood, and ethics are carried not in abstraction, but in bodies (goat, mother, kid, child), paths, wool woven, myth, and land—and what happens when those carriers are broken, hunted, or devoured, regurgitated?
