- Describe your experience at the residency.
- Thank you so much for allowing me to work again, at your beautiful space, the Sou'wester. While there, I laid the editing groundwork for the next two chapters of my web-series, Laurelhurst. I improved upon methods that I had come up with last year, during my stay, that helped to categorize the goliath, 50+ hours of footage shot for the project. My excitement for the project was renewed, as I was able to finally see many of the scenes come back to life, once pieced together in rough form. Now that the ball is rolling on the edit, I plan on finishing the edit of both episodes by summer and I will send it along to you then :) Also, while here I was thinking about how much I would love to give back to this place that has taken up residency in my heart, and an idea for another residency came to me, that would be OF the place and an offering to it. I'd love to come back here in the summer, recording the sounds of the area, and piecing them together into an audio journey: a soundscape of the Sou'wester. I'd like to make a run of cassette tapes, that when listeners experienced, would transport them back to the unique charm of this landscape. Perhaps the journey would begin by the fireplace in the lodge, the sound of people getting their morning coffee and chatting by the record player. We travel outwards, through the squeak of the front door and the crunch of gravel under your shoes. Then the chorus of frogs fades into the mix and we get closer and closer to their hypnotic oscillation. Eventually, listeners are taken west to the beach, the wind, the sand whispering across sand, speckles of rain, and oh yes, the rolling ocean. So deeply thankful for you all making it possible for me to come back here for my second residency, and providing the soul-soothing, cozy habitat that so sparks my creativity. Looking forward to finishing the final two chapters and sharing them with you.
- Tell us about the work you made — title and description.
- Laurelhurst -- A 3-part web series about a meter maid in Portland who's horrible at his job because he just wants to make friends and fall in love. The first episode is up now, and I plan to have the final two parts finished by summer. You can see the first episode at the link below.
- Did you leave a token behind, or are you planning to ship one?
