Describe your experience at the residency.
In the middle of an MFA program in Portland, mother to two young kids and desperately trying to pull together important pieces of a publication, I needed some time away to focus on transcripts and translations from interviews done the preceding summer. I've been working on this publication for 3 years now and am just about to publish it (in 2020), finally! My time at Sou'wester was the absolute perfect get away - the perfect combination of focused and uninterrupted creative time, daily walks on the beach, tea breaks from the main house, evening saunas, bingeing on Wild Wild Country and even having the opportunity to host a friend for dinner. I loved every moment. The need I have as an artist mother to carve out concentrated time to do my work was reinforced. I need a week away like this every 3 months to give my soul and my work a boost.
Tell us about the work you made — title and description.
Or Hadash is an art and marketplace intervention into the Jewish indigenous practice of parchment making. It disrupts the current production model which sources skins from industrially raised animals and instead works directly with shepherds, small scale animal farmers, parchment makers, contemporary scribes and the communities they serve.
Did you leave a token behind, or are you planning to ship one?

If yes, what is the title and medium of the token?
