Describe your experience at the residency.
I had a fantastic week at the Sou'Wester dividing my time between exploring beaches and forests nearby, and immersing myself in creative work in the cozy and delightful vintage trailer I stayed in. I was able to have some focused time to write, and I was also able to give time to a project that I have been wanting to start for some time.
Tell us about the work you made — title and description.
The project that I started at the Sou'Wester is called "The Secret Seed Project." I made a collection of small handmade books with watercolor paint and varying poetry and writings in them. These books will be hidden in public places — inside newspapers, or napkin dispensers, in public restrooms, wherever someone might unexpectedly come across it and be jostled from their regular routine by a pretty little handmade thing. The thrust of the project is to make something with intention and care and leave it behind for someone else to discover. The hope is that it will act as a seed for discoverer-- a seed that might make them laugh or feel inspired, make them want to do something creative, or just remind this stranger of the unexpected nature of the world.
