Anthony Hudson
Describe your experience at the residency.
I love Sou'wester and I love the residency program - this was my second time doing it and it went so fast! I covered the walls of cabin #8 with my notes and diagrams and charts guiding the plot of the show I was writing, more or less turning the cabin itself into my notebook; I wish I'd taken pictures. Over my time there I was able to complete three huge project grant applications and wrote a new draft of my show LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY touring to Dartmouth in April. I miss the space and the peninsula already - and the on and off snow was a beautiful touch too.
Tell us about the work you made — title and description.
LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY: A solo theatre show, LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY utilizes song, drag, and video to put a queer spin on ancestral, traditional storytelling. Drawing on a songbook from Disney's "Pocahontas" to Cher's "Half-Breed," Anthony asks what it means for a mixed-race millennial to grow up experiencing their heritage filtered through white pop culture caricatures.
